Welcome to St. Andrews Primary Schools Home Page. Our school is situated in the central area of Fraserburgh, which is located on the North East cost of Scotland.
Our school consists of three buildings, the Infant Department, the Nursery Department and the Upper Primary Department (formerly known as the Infant, Nursery and Central schools). During August, 1997 all three establishments underwent an amalgamation, hence we are now known as the 'ST. ANDREWS PRIMARY SCHOOL'.
The main building was built in 1882 and the Infant Building was founded in 1901. Both have seen many changes over the years and are well equipped to cope with the modern curriculum which our children need today.
The current roll is 318 primary pupils, and 50 nursery pupils.

The Infant building has its classrooms, library, staff room and resources room built around a large central hall. It has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere which is very important when a child first starts school. We run a pre-school programme which diminishes the anxieties and fears of children and parents alike. This programme takes place after enrolment in January, when the Head Teacher and staff discuss with parents ways they can help their children prepare for school.
This allows each child to become familiar with their teacher and the new surroundings before term begins. The children also start school in small groups on different days and are phased in over the first two weeks. In this way the teacher is able to give more attention to each child and listen to all his/her little problems.
The Main building, like its Infant Department counterpart, has modern classrooms outfitted with the latest interactive whiteboards. The classrooms are located on two floors and the building also houses a GP room, library, resource room and PE hall, with a hosa hut being used for art and technology.
All infant pupils progress to the main building after 3 years of school. They then spend 4 years attending the upper primary department before attending a local secondary school, usually Fraserburgh Academy.
Primary 7 pupils have a three day induction programme at the Fraserburgh Academy in June, when they have the opportunity to meet with their new teachers and familiarise themselves with the building. At this time the parents of these pupils are invited to attend an evening talk given by the Rector of the school, which is followed by a tour of the school. There are also events throughout the session which have been set up to allow primary seven pupils from all schools in the network to meet and socialise.
To provide a breadth and balance following the 5-14 curriculum . To achieve high standards in all areas of the 5 - 14 curriculum and to use various forms of assessment to monitor and evaluate pupils' progress in accordance with national assessment targets. To create effective learning and teaching experiences which encourage pupils to learn and think independently in a stimulating and motivating environment. To ensure the care and welfare of all pupils, taking into account their social, emotional and physical needs, in cooperation with the wider community. To provide a happy, secure and stimulating atmosphere, where each child is encouraged to take pride in the school and the local community. To provide resources to facilitate effective learning and teaching, taking into account personal expertise of different professionals. To provide clear guidance and support for staff, pupils and parents and ensure clarity of purpose.
The main building houses a Special Needs Nursery unit. Equal opportunities are promoted throughout all school departments. Pupils are encouraged to report incidents of bullying to staff or their parents. All reported incidents will be treated on their merits and records of incidents will be maintained. Pupils are taught a firm understanding of the difference between right and wrong. They are encouraged to act responsibly and accept the consequences of their own actions. Anti-racist behaviour is discouraged. There is a central canteen which is located within the main buildings grounds. All children can attend the canteen for school meals if required. The Infant pupils are escorted to and from the canteen building to ensure safety. The nursery building is adjacent to the main building. It has two classrooms and is situated alongside the school canteen.
